Nine Arrested In Islamist-Related Terrorism Investigation

Anjem Choudary is reportedly among nine men arrested on suspicion of being members of a banned organisation.

The Metropolitan Police have said nine men have been arrested during searches of 19 premises as part of an ongoing investigation into "Islamist-related terrorism". Raids were carried out on 18 properties in London and one in Stoke-on-Trent.

It is understood the men arrested range in age from 22 to 51 and are being held at police stations across London.

A Met statement said the men are being held on suspicion of being members of a proscribed organisation, supporting a proscribed organisation contrary to Section 11 and 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and encouraging terrorism, contrary to Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Mr Choudray is the former UK head of the Islamist group al-Muhajiroun or Islam4UK, banned in the UK in 2010.
