Fire Crews Tackle Church Blaze

Fire crews have been tackling a blaze at St Clements Church on St Olaf Street, Lerwick.

The fire was reported at around 8.45pm on Monday (20 October).

In a statement, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said two appliances from Lerwick and one from Scalloway were sent to the scene.

The church was undergoing construction work and "serious damage" is said to have been caused to the extension of the building.

An investigation by the SFRS and Police Scotland is now underway as to the cause of the fire.

Celtic Goalkeeper Attacked In Street

Lukasz Zaluska, a goalkeeper with Scottish football team Celtic has been assaulted.

It is understood the 32-year-old was attacked in a Glasgow street in the early hours of Monday morning. He was on a night out in the city.

Zaluska suffered a head injury in the incident at Ashton lane, in the west of the city.

It has been reported that another Scottish Premiership player was involved in the altercation, but police have not confirmed the claims.

In a statement they said an investigation had been launched and CCTV footage was being examined.

Public Appearance For Duchess Of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge has made her first public appearance since announcing her second pregnancy.

The duchess joined her husband as they welcomed the president of Singapore and his wife to the UK.

The duchess, who is said to be around 12 weeks pregnant, is suffering from extreme morning sickness which has forced her to miss recent engagements. Her condition is said to be improving.

Her pregnancy was announced last month after she was forced to pull out of a number of public engagements.

On Monday it was confirmed the couple's child would be due in April. They welcomed their first child, Prince George, in July 2013.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Tube Station Shuts Following Accidental Blast
A busy London tube station was forced to close last night, following an electrical explosion nearby. Bond Street Station was closed for around 50 minutes at approximately 8pm on Thursday after a blast at a Foot Locker store on Oxford Street.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
