Birmingham City Council Reveal 20-Year City Plan

A new £4 billion transport plan for Birmingham has been revealed by the city's council.

The 20-year Birmingham Connected scheme proposes three tram lines for the city, a high-speed bus route, the reopening of rail lines and the construction of two new stations.

Birmingham City Council said that currently it does not have funding in place for the scheme but it plans on bidding for government and European money.

The council added that local business could make an "increased contribution" through "ring-fenced" taxation.

Transport in the city has been described as "key issue" by chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
