Torquay Search Called Off Due To Bad Weather Conditions

A search for a man reportedly swept from a sea wall near Torquay on Thursday night has been called off.

Police received a report at about 21:30 on Thursday that a man had disappeared from view as waves crashed over the wall at Meadfoot Beach.

A search operation with two helicopters and two lifeboats was launched but had to be stood down at midnight due to poor conditions.

Police saidthey are trying to established if any has been reported missing that might match the description they received.

Shannon Found Alive
Missing West Yorkshire schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been found alive. The nine-year-old was reportedly found concealed in the base of a divan bed in a flat in Lidgate Gardens in Batley Carr. According to reports, police smashed into the flat and rescued Shannon.

Life For Gardening Murderer
A gardener has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of 54-year-old Lynda Casey from Coulsdon in Surrey. Ms Casey's body was found by police search teams in an area of Banstead Woods in Surrey known as Great Solom’s Wood on 13 August 2009. A post mortem examination showed she had suffered multiple head injuries.

PM To Host Internet Safety Summit
The Prime Minister will host a key summit at Downing Street where he will welcome the progress made by internet service providers, leading search engines and police agencies to better protect children from harmful material online and block child abuse and other illegal content but will warn that there is still more to do.

Missing Boy's Funeral Held Today
A funeral will be held later for a British boy who drowned while cycling on an island in the south of France. 12-year-old Pierre Barnes from Grantham in Lincolnshire vanished on 27 October while cycling on Porquerolles. The boy went missing just hours after arriving for a half-term family holiday.
