Royal Navy Seize Cocaine Destined For UK

The Royal Navy has seized cocaine with a combined value of more than £68 million in the last three months, the government reported.

Following a tip from a US customs aircraft, HMS Argyll travelled 70 miles on Sunday to intercept a boat suspected of carrying drugs. According to the report a "high-speed chase" ensued during which the crew of the suspect vessel began throwing cargo overboard. HMS Argyll eventually stopped the second vessel and seized cocaine worth an estimated £36 million.

Secretary of state for Defence Michael Fallon said: "HMS Argyll has had phenomenal success in disrupting the drugs trade which continues to blight the UK. Her crew are doing outstanding and demanding work, and the British people will rightly be proud of, and grateful for, their professionalism and commitment. Thanks to them, drugs destined for our streets never reach our shores."
