MoD Announce Closure Of Kinloss Search And Rescue Centre

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the closure of the search and rescue co-ordination centre at Kinloss in Moray.

Operations are to be relocated to the National Maritime Operations Centre in Fareham. It is understood up to 27 RAF posts and 10 civilian posts are to be affected by the closure at Kinloss, which previously co-ordinated RAF, Royal Navy and Coastguard search and rescue helicopters and the RAF mountain rescue service.

Rescue teams searching for a missing 48-year-old man have found a body. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team discovered the remains while searching for Simon Bally of Stoke-on-Trent, at the head of the Buttermere Valley on Tuesday.

Navy And RAF Rescue To Be Privatised
Despite objections from Prince William the Royal Navy and RAF search and rescue teams are to be privatised. The Government has announced that by 2016 the coastline and mountains will be patrolled by civilians ending 60 years of military search and rescue by servicemen.

Nottingham Teenager Found 'Safe And Well'
Nottinghamshire Police have reported that 14-year-old Charlotte Bainbridge has been found "safe and well". A UK-wide child rescue alert was issued on Tuesday when the teenager was reported missing from her home in Chilwell, near Nottingham. A police spokesperson said: "Charlotte Bainbridge now safe and well at home.

Mountain Rescue Teams Help Stranded Motorists
Some 40 volunteers from three mountain rescue teams have helped police clear a road on the England-Scotland border after around 100 cars became stranded in heavy snow fall. It is understood the cars became stuck on the A68 due to the speed the snow came down.
