Wine Bar To Be Prosecuted Over Liquid Nitrogen Cocktail

A director and employee of a wine bar in Lancashire are to be prosecuted after a female customer needed surgery to remove her stomach after drinking a liquid nitrogen cocktail.

It is understood that an 18-year-old woman was celebrating her birthday at Oscar's Wine Bar on George Street and drank two Nitro Jagermeister cocktails.

Gaby Scanlon, from Heysham, ended up in hospital. It was discovered her stomach had a large perforation caused by the drinks. She required surgery to remove her stomach.

The wine bar, one of its directors and an employee are to face charges at a Health and Safety tribunal on 9 February.

Criticised Christmas Theme Park To Close Permanently

A Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen designed Christmas theme park has closed permanently.

The Magical Journey attraction, located at the Belfry Golf Club, had closed following a number of complaints from customers on its opening day.

It is understood that the attraction has now closed permanently after a financial backer pulled out.

UKIP Parliamentary Prospect Resigns From Party

Essex County Council and Basildon District Council member, Kerry Smith, has resigned from the UK Independence Party.

It is understood that Mr Smith resigned from the party after he was forced to stand down as a prospective parliamentary candidate.

Mr Smith will now sit as an independent Councillor.

Red wine may help protect against the development of lung cancer in men, according to research published in the specialist British Medical Journal (BMJ) Thorax. The research assessed the lifestyles of 132 patients with lung cancer and 187 patients requiring minor surgery at the same hospital in north west Spain between 1999 and 2000.

Rail Firm Faces Potters Bar Crash Charges
The Office of Rail Regulation has said Jarvis Rail, a network rail and maintenance company, are to be prosecuted over the 2002 Potters Bar crash. The London to King's Lynn train derailed after a points failure in May 2002, killing six people and a pedestrian. A report from the Health and Safety Executive blamed poor maintenance.

Portable Detectors Combat Knife Crime
