Man Arrested Over Suspected Arson Attacks In Oxfordshire

Police have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of arson following three fires in Oxfordshire.

The offices of South Oxfordshire District Council, a funeral parlour and a thatched cottage were all damaged in fires that started within ten minutes of each other in the early hours of Thursday morning.

At their peak 27 firecrews from Oxfordshire and Berkshire tackled the three blazes.

South Oxfordshire District Council's office was badly damaged by the fire, with gale force winds reigniting the blaze after fire fighters believed it to have been extinguished.

Police said that initial investigations lead them to believe that gas canisters were used at all three sites.

The suspected arsonist remains in custody.
