Cumbria Police To Axe Officers To Meet Budget Cuts
More than 150 frontline officers are to be axed by Cumbria Police as a result of £10.8m in funding cuts.
The job cuts were revealed in a report to the Police and Crime Panel ahead of a meeting due to be held on 26 January.
The report shows a forecast for a reduction in the number of officers by 155 over the next four years, down from 1,132 to 977 by 2019.
Within the report the forces states that due to ongoing budget cuts frontline police numbers will need to be reduced, with more reliance placed on police community support officers (PCSOs).
The force also notes the 977 officers is "close to the minimum level needed" to police Cumbria.

The man jailed for the murder of two police officers has been moved from Strangeways prison in Manchester to the maximum-security Ashworth Hospital. 30-year-old Dale Cregan was given a whole-life sentence for the murders of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes as well as father and son David and Mark Short.
