Ray Mears Caravan Jibe To Cost Him Around £10,000

Ray Mears appearance on the TV show Room 101 will reportedly cost the survival expert at least £10,000.

During his appearance on the show, which asks guests to select things they dislike and to place them in Room 101, one of his choices was caravans.

Mr Mears described them as "hideous and ghastly" despite being booked to speak at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show next month.

Organisers of the caravan exhibition have now dropped Mr Mears and said his comments were "elitist" and "insulting".

'At Least' Two Years Before Councillors Return To Fire Damaged Building

The leader of South Oxfordshire District Council confirmed it will be two to three years before staff can return to their offices.

The councils office in Crowmarsh Gifford were destroyed by a fire on 15 January.

Some 400 people worked at the building, with the vast majority now having nowhere to work.

"It is going to be at least two or three years before we are back into our own building," Council leader John Cotton said.

"At this point I am assuming we are going to rebuild somewhere."

Mr Cotton added they hope to have temporary offices established by next week.

Salvage Teams To Tow Beached Hoegh Osaka Back To Port

Salvage experts said they hope to tow the stricken Hoegh Osaka back into Southampton today.

The ship, carrying a cargo of cars and construction equipment, was deliberately banked on Bramble Bank sandbank on 03 January after it began to dangerously list as it left port.

Salvage teams on the vessel managed to reduce the degree on list, which should allow it to be towed back to port.

Over 5,000 Council Trade Workers Strike Over Pay
Over 5,000 council trade workers are to hold a one-day strike, which could be repeated every two weeks until an agreement is reached in a row over pay. Trade workers such as plasterers and electricians for councils including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Fife are said to be unhappy about being forced to work longer hours than council colleagues.

Chat show veteran Parkinson moves to ITV
ITV has signed up BBC chat show veteran Michael Parkinson on a two-year deal, it has emerged today. Mr Parkinson, who has hosted his eponymously-titled programme for 18 years, said that he decided to move to commercial broadcaster ITV after his Saturday night primetime slot was threatened by the return of Match of the Day.

Torbay Council Back £22m Budget Cut
