Man On Trial For Murder Found Dead In Prison Cell

A man on trial for killing a guest house woman has committed suicide in prison.

John Heald, 53, was waiting for the jury to reach a verdict at Hull Crown Court, for the murder of Bei Carter and the rape of another woman.

He was accused of deliberately stabbing Mrs Carter, 49, at the Moryland Hotel on 18 July last year. He was also accused of raping a woman in the Sheffield area.

The jury has been discharged.

A man has pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a young woman days after being released on bail over separate rape allegations. Christopher Braithwaite, of Bentworth Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London, admitted to stabbing twenty-three-year-old Stacey Westbury at her Fulham home on 17 August, 2007.

Jury Out In Hannah Foster Murder Case
The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering teenager Hannah Foster has retired to consider its verdict. Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, 41, denies allegations of rape, kidnap, false imprisonment and murder at Winchester Crown Court. Hannah, 17, disappeared in Southampton after a night out with friends in March 2003.

Jury Sworn In For Stephen Lawrence Murder Trial
The jury of eight men and four women attending the Stephen Lawerence murder trail have been sworn in. Two men stand accused of murdering the black teenager Stephen Lawrence 18 years ago, and face a trail at the Old Bailey. The jury will hear the case against Gary Dobson, 36, and David Norris, 35, both of south London. Both deny the charges.
