Pensioner Killed In Road Collision Robbed

Police have launched an investigation following the theft of a pensioners purse who was killed in a road collision in Manchester on Wednesday.

Ethel Irene Ditcher, known as Irene, 82, died when she was hit by a lorry on Leigh Road.

In a tribute, her nephew and niece, said: "We, the family of our auntie Irene would just like to thank the public for the kindness shown in our loss.

"To our dearly loved auntie, who was taken from us; you now sit with the angels and your beloved family. You will be sadly missed by your dear friends and you will always be in our hearts but never forgotten.

"Rest in peace until we meet again. Good night, God bless."

Police are trying to locate a man described as being white, 6ft tall, between 30 and 40 years old, of medium build, and a dark brown beard. He was wearing a light grey hooded top, light blue jeans and black boot style training shoes.

Two 14-Year-Old Boys Charged With Manslaughter
Two 14-year-old boys have been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 41-year-old father-of-two in Leicester. Ponnuthurai Nimalaraja, known as Nimal, was assaulted at the junction of Gypsy Lane and Northfield Road shortly after 23:00 on 9 June. Mr Nimalaraja died in hospital on 16 June, one week after being attacked.

PC Jailed Over Schoolgirl's Crash Death
A police officer who caused the death of a teenage girl by dangerous driving, has been jailed for three years. Hayley Adamson, 16, was killed when she stepped out into the path of PC John Dougal's car in Newcastle's Denton Road on 19 May last year. Dougal was chasing a suspect car at the time, but did not have his siren or blue lights switched on.

Reward Offered In 2010 Murder Of 16-Year-Old
A reward of £20,000 has been offered for information leading to a conviction for the 2010 murder of 16-year-old Samuel Adelagun in Plaistow. Police have renewed their appeal on the murder of the teenager and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old friend on Saturday, 23 October 2010.

A national campaign launched today by the charity Brake at the start of Road Safety Week calls on drivers to tune in to road safety, to prevent appalling crashes caused by multi-tasking at the wheel.

Merger forms 'Road Block' anti-road protest group
An alliance of groups and individuals campaigning against the building of new roads has been set up under the name 'Road Block'. The campaigners behind the new association say that it has been launched in response to a proposed scheme for 200 new roads throughout the UK.
