Horses Killed By Trains In Durham

An investigation has been launched after two trains in Durham struck and killed five horses that had gotten onto railway lines.

It is understood that two passenger trains travelling in opposite directions between Darlington and Middlesbrough struck the horses this morning at about 07:00.

No staff or passengers were injured in the incident.

Northern Rail said that delays are expected as the lines are expected to be closed for some time.

British Transport Police are investigating how the horses came to be on the tracks.

Dealers Guilty Of Horse Neglect Charges
Five people have been found guilty of neglecting more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys on a Buckinghamshire farm. Horse dealer James John Gray, 45 and his son James Gray Junior,16, were both found guilty of 11 charges under sections 4 and 9 of Animal Welfare Act following a 12-week trial, brought by the RSPCA.

Ladbrooke Grove train crash case to go ahead
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has begun its prosecution of Thames Trains Limited for alleged breaches of health and safety law in connection with the Ladbroke Grove rail collision. HSE made public its intention to prosecute both Thames Trains Limited and Railtrack PLC (now Network Rail) in March 2002.

Eurostar Resuming Full Service After Fire
Eurotunnel trains departing from St Pancras are expected to be running at full capacity by the end of the week. Freight trains will run at approximately 90% capacity. The first of three 10.5mile sections of track in the north tunnel should be reopened today. A second section is to be opened by Wednesday.
