Met Apologises Over Letter Failure In Syria Schoolgirls Case
The head of the Metropolitan Police has issued an apology to the families of three teenage girls believed to have travelled to Syria to Islamic State.
It is understood the force issued letters intended for parents of the schoolgirls after one of their school mates went missing in 2014 – she is also thought to have joined IS – but it has been revealed the letters never reached the girls parents.
Shamima Begum, Amira Abase, both 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, left the UK on a flight for Turkey last month.

National Gallery Bans Selfie Sticks
The National Gallery has banned selfie sticks, which it puts in the same category as tripods, which are also banned, "in order to protect paintings, individual privacy and the overall visitor experience".
According to reports, the London Gallery is not the first to ban the elongated poles.
Speaking to the Times, art critic Brian Sewell, welcomed the ban.
"They are possibly quite dangerous to the art work and cause appalling crowding around a painting," Mr Sewell said.
"Anyone who actually wants to go and see a painting can't because people are too busy taking photos. I've seen things in the National Gallery which make my hair stand on end."
