Fine Introduced For Idling Motorists

Westminster City Council is to introduce a fine for motorists sitting in a stationary car with the engine running.

The council said that a team of marshals will patrol the area asking stationary motorists to turn off their engines. Those who fail to comply will face a £20 fine.

The fine is to be introduced from 01 May, with it being used as a "last resort", the council said.

The new policy is said to be based on a fine on buses introduced by Camden Council in 2011.
