CoE Announce Second Female Bishop

The Reverend Canon Alison White has been named as the new Bishop of Hull.

Reverend White is the second woman to be appointed a bishop by the Church of England, following The Rt Rev Libby Lane, who was named Bishop of Stockport in January.

The Rev Canon White said: "In 2010, I was privileged to be invited to take part in the York Diocesan Clergy Conference where I got a profound sense of a Diocese with faith and hope.

"I know that there is a real vision to be generous churches making and nurturing disciples and can't wait to be part of loving God and growing the Church in this great part of Yorkshire."

Clarkson BBC Contract Will Not Be Renewed

The BBC will not renew Jeremy Clarkson's contract.

Director General Tony Hall said he had "not taken this decision lightly", but "a line has been crossed" and he "cannot condone what has happened on this occasion".

The Top Gear host was suspended by the broadcaster early this month for an alleged "fracas" with one of the show's producers.

Body Recovered In Search Operation For Missing Hill Walker

A body has been recovered by rescue teams searching for a missing hill walker in Stirlingshire.

The body has not been official identified, but police believe it to the body of Daniel Bennett (43) who went missing while out walking last Saturday.

Mr Bennett's family are being kept informed of developments, police said.

UK Troops Get Boost To Personal Protection
British troops fighting in the frontline are to receive new body armour and helmets this autumn, it has been announced. Over 10,000 sets of the enhanced Mark 7 helmet and the Osprey Assault body armour have been ordered from companies across the UK, under initial contracts worth around £16 million.

First black Archbishop for England
The Bishop of Birmingham, the Rev John Sentamu, has been named as the new Archbishop of York, becoming the Church of England’s first black Archbishop. The 56-year-old Ugandan-born cleric will succeed the Most Reverend David Hope, who resigned from the post in February to take up a position as a parish priest in Ilkley, west Yorkshire.

Police Appeal For Missing 15-Year-Old
West Yorkshire Police have appealed for help in tracing 15-year-old Umme Habiba Tahir from Bradford. The teenager was last seen in Bradford city centre at about 17:00 on Tuesday, 18 August. She is Asian with dark brown hair which was tied up in a bun. She is described as very petite, around 5ft 2ins tall.

Laptop And Other Items Belonging To Becky Watts Recovered
Police investigating the murder of 16-year-old Becky Watts have recovered a laptop, a tablet computer and a mobile phone belonging to the teenager. The Bristol teen was reported missing on 19 February, sparking a major police search operation.

Stepbrother Of Becky Watts Charged With Murder
The stepbrother of 16-year-old Becky Watts has been charged with murder. Nathan Matthews, 28, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Bristol Crown Court on 2 April. His girlfriend, Shauna Hoare, 21, was also remanded in custody.
