Man Jailed After Arranging His Own Release From Prison

A convict who arranged his own release from prison using a fake email account has been jailed for seven years.

Neil Moore, 28, was on remand at Wandsworth prison when he used an illicit mobile phone to set up a website using the address and telephone number of the Royal Courts of Justice. He then established an email account for the deliberately misspelled Southwalk Crown Court.

Moore than emailed Wandsworth Prison posing as a court clerk manager and giving release instructions. Mr Moore was then released from jail on 10 March last year.

The fraud was only discovered when solicitors arrived at the prison to speak to Mr Moore three days after he had been released.

However, Mr Moore handed himself back into police on the same day his deception was uncovered.

Moore was sentenced to seven years for eight counts of fraud and one of escape from lawful custody.
