Two Men Arrested Over Violent Carjacking

Two men have been arrested in connection with a violent carjacking in Dudley in the early hours of Monday morning.

A 26-year-old woman, driving a Ford Mondeo, on Kingswinford Road, was forced to stop by another car at about 00:30 this morning.

When stopped two men jumped out of a dark coloured hatchback, one getting into the rear of the Mondeo and the other pulling the driver from the car and getting into the drivers seat.

The Mondeo was then reversed at speed with the drivers door open, hitting the woman and running over her leg, before making off at speed.

Local residents called police to the scene, where the woman was treated for leg injuries before being taken to hospital.

The stolen car was found a short time later in Gornal, where it had collided with three parked cars. Two men were seen fleeing the scene by witnesses.

A police search was mounted and two men, aged 19 and 20 were found a short time later and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Detective Inspector Nigel Smith, of Dudley Police, said: "This was a nasty robbery, which left a young woman injured and extremely shaken.

"The offenders crashed the stolen Mondeo, causing significant damage and it is surprising no one was seriously hurt.

"Searches of the local area led to the quick arrest of two suspects and they are now in custody helping with enquiries.

"We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw the Mondeo or a dark blue hatchback in the area of Ham Lane, Stallings Lane or Gornal between 00.40am and 1am this morning as they may be able to help with our enquiries."

Anyone with information to assist the police inquiry should call Dudley Police investigation team, by dialling 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
