Aid Plane Leaves UK For Nepal

UK aid supplies and British army troops, including Gurkha engineers, have left Britain on an RAF plane bound for Nepal.

The aid flights are being sent to help in rescue efforts following a major earthquake on Saturday.

More than 1,100 shelter kits are being transported on flight RAF C-17, which left RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire on Monday night.

Up to 60 British and Irish people are believed to still be unaccounted for in the region. However, the UK Foreign Office has said that it is currently not aware of any deaths of injuries.

The death has frown steadily in the days following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, with the latest figures stating that more than 4,300 have been killed and some 8,000 have been injured.

Eighteen people died in avalanches on Mt Everest, triggered by the earthquake.

An RAF Hercules aircraft is expected to leave later today, carrying more aid to Nepal.
