Briton Confirmed Among Dead In Nepal Earthquake

The Foreign Office has confirmed that a Briton living in Hong Kong is among the victims of an earthquake in Nepal.

The victim, who has not been named, is understood to have held dual nationality and is the first Briton to be confirmed among the dead.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has said that the government is "urgently investigating" reports of further British casualties.

Underground Pop-Up Cinema To Mark 24 Hour Tube Service

A pop-up cinema is to show films at Charing Cross Station to celebrate the Tube moving to a 24 hour service.

Hosted by Underground Film Club, the screenings are to be shown in the disused station, which has previously been a film set for Skyfall and Paddington.

Edinburgh Train Workers Announce Strike Action

Virgin rail workers in Edinburgh have announced strike action on Bank Holiday Monday to protest the sacking of a colleague.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT), based at Waverley station, will stage a 24 hour walk out over the dismissal of Mark Doughty.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "We are determined to right this outrageous injustice of a member fired for telling passengers the truth."

Firefighters Strike For The Fourth Time
Firefighters in England and Wales have begun their latest industrial action in an ongoing dispute over pensions. At 10am on Wednesday morning Fire Brigade Union members began a four hour walkout in a dispute over what the unions describe as "affordable and workable pensions".

Grandmother guilty of growing cannabis
A 68-year-old grandmother has been guilty of growing and possessing cannabis at her home. Patricia Tabram, from Humshaugh, Northumberland, was found guilty at Carlisle Crown Court. She had denied the charges. She has been given a 250 hour community service order. The court heard how police raided her home in September 2005.

Go-Ahead For Somerset Nuclear Power Plant
The government have given the go-ahead for a new nuclear power station to be built in Somerset. The £16bn Hinkley Point C plant will be operated by a consortium lead by France's EDF Energy. The government said that the construction of the two reactor power plant will "help take the UK towards low-carbon power".

Firefighters Begin 24-Hour Strike Action
Firefighters in England have started a 24-hour work stoppage in an ongoing dispute over changes to their pensions. Fire crews across the country walked out at 07:00 on Wednesday, and are due to hold a rally in Westminster later today.
