Paul Gascoigne Awarded £188,250 In Phone-Hacking Damages

Former footballer Paul Gascoigne has been awarded £188,250 over phone-hacking damages from Mirror Group Newspaper (MGN).

Mr Gascoigne was one of eight victims awarded compensation at London's High Court today, 21 May.

The judge awarded actress Sadie Frost £260,250 and Eastenders' actor Shane Richie £155,000.

Lucy Benjamin will receive £157,250 and Shobna Gulati was awarded £117,500.

BBC Creative Director Alan Yentob was awarded £85,000 by Mr Justice Mann.

TV Producer Robert Ashworth received £201,250 and flight attendant Lauren Alcorn was awarded £72,500.

Pushchair Firm Pays-Out Over Injuries
Pushchair manufactuer, Maclaren, has agreed to compensate 40 UK children who have seriously injured their fingers in the hinges of their prams. The children were aged between one and eight when they were hurt, with some cases dating back to 2003.

Thames Trains fined £2m over Ladbrook Grove crash
Thames Trains have been fined a record £2 million for breaches of health and safety law arising out of the Ladbrooke Grove rail collision, in which 31 people died. The fine followed a one-day sentence hearing at the Old Bailey, where the judge also awarded costs of £75,000 in addition to the fine.

Met Lose Appeal Against Damages Awarded To Autistic Child
A legal bid to overturn damages awarded to an autistic teenager restrained by police after jumping into a swimming pool, has been rejected. The Met had appealed a ruling made last year that the Metropolitan Police officers had falsely imprisoned and discriminated against the boy, known only as ZH, and awarded him £28,250.

Singer Peter Andre has been awarded undisclosed libel damages following a newspaper's claim that he was unfaithful to his estranged wife, model Katie Price. The story was published in the Sunday People in May, prior to the couple's split.

Undisclosed Damages Awarded To Cyclist Injured By Oldham Potholes
A Team Sky cycling boss has settled a claim against Oldham Council after she was injured when she hit a pothole and fell off her bike. 34-year-old Fran Millar, head of business operations at Team Sky, lost several teeth and was left with fractures to her cheek, jaw and fingers after she was thrown from her bike when it hit a pothole.
