Donald Trump Loses Wind Farm Challenge
Donald Trump has lost a legal challenge regarding an offshore wind farm which would be located close to his golf resort in Aberdeenshire.
The fresh application by the business tycoon wanted a judicial review carried out into the development. He claimed that Scottish Ministers had acted against the law when they approved the 11-turbine scheme back in March 2013.
A previous legal challenge by the 68-year-old had been dismissed and during a ruling on Friday, Lord Gill, Scotland's most senior judge, said that the earlier decision had been legal.
Trump has previously questioned the government's support for the wind farm despite failing to hold a public inquiry. He also argued that the development would ruin the view from his Menie-based golf course in Aberdeenshire.
Lord Gill ruled: "None of the considerations founded upon by the petitioners comes anywhere near to supporting the petitioners suspicions."
Appeal After Woman Hit By Motorcycle In Huddersfield
West Yorkshire Police have launched an appeal for information after a woman was injured when she was struck by a motorcycle. The motorcycle failed to stop at the scene.
The incident occurred at the junction of Church Avenue and May Street in the Crossland Moor area of Huddersfield at around 11.23pm last Saturday (30 May).
Police said a female pedestrian, aged 47, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries after the motorcycle collided with her as she crossed the road with her 15-year-old son. The teenager was not injured.
It is thought the motorcycle was being followed by a Silver Vauxhall Corsa, which later failed to stop for police and was later recovered. The motorcycle is described as a black, off-road motorcycle that did not have any registration plates. The rider was wearing a black helmet.
PC Martin Willis, Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support, said: "This is clearly a serious incident in which the rider involved has failed to stop at the scene. The victim has been left with serious injuries and we are appealing for witnesses to help trace the motorcycle and rider involved.
"We would also appeal for the rider to come forward and contact us now."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
Two Further Rollercoasters To Close
Merlin Entertainments, owner of Alton Towers Resort, has announced it is to close a number of other rollercoasters at its other resorts "for the foreseeable future".
The move comes just days after an incident on The Smiler ride at Alton Towers crashed, leaving 16 people injured, four of which remain in a serious condition.
In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Merlin Entertainments said it was engaged in a "thorough review and investigation of the events that led up to the incident and of its safety and operating processes."
It added that the investigation is ongoing, and they are "co-operating fully" with the Health & Safety Executive.
In the statement, the group said it had since enhanced its safety standards – effective immediately – by issuing an additional set of safety protocols and procedures to reinforce the safe operation of its multi-car rollercoasters. It is now working to implement and brief operating staff on these protocols.
As a result, two additional rollercoaster rides have been withdrawn from service until the new safety protocols have been applied.
The Smiler and Saw, a similar ride at Thorpe Park, have been closed since Tuesday's accident and will stay closed "for the foreseeable future", the statement confirmed.
It has also been reported that two rides at Chessington World of Adventures – Dragon's Fury and Rattlesnake – have been closed until the new safety protocols have been applied.
Alton Towers will remain closed to the public on Saturday.
