Southern Rail Ban Electronic Cigarettes

Southern Rail has announced a service-wide ban on the use of electronic cigarettes.

From 26 July, passengers will no longer be allowed to use the devices on Southern Rail trains or at stations operated by the company.

The devices have already been banned by Great Northern, Thameslink and Transport for London.

E-Cigs To Be Banned In Enclosed Spaces In Wales

The use of e-cigarettes is to be banned in restaurants, pubs and workplaces in Wales.

The Welsh government have introduced a new public health law banning the electronic device. The law, the first in the UK, is expected to come into force in 2017.

The move has been criticised by some health and medical groups, understood to include some anti-smoking campaigners, but the government has said that it is a "balance of risk".

Dinosaur Fossil Uncovered In Vale Of Glamorgan Goes On Display

The fossilised skeleton of a Jurassic dinosaur has gone on display at Cardiff's National Museum.

The small theropod dinosaur – a distant cousin of the giant Tyrannosaurus Rex – was uncovered by spring storms in 2014 at Lavernock, Vale of Glamorgan.

Fossil-hunting brothers Nick and Rob Hanigan made the discovery and are donating it to National Museum Wales. It will be on display in Cardiff until September.

Wales Bans Electronic Dog Collars
A ban on the use of collars designed to administer an electric shock to dogs and cats in Wales came into force today. Assembly member approved the regulations yesterday. The ban, the first of its kind in the UK, was initially announced by Wales’ Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones on 24 February.

BP Tanker Drivers To Strike Over Pension And Pay Dispute
Grangemouth oil refinery tanker drivers will walk out for three days next Friday in a dispute over pensions and pay. The Unite members at the Forth estuary facility, employed by BP, will also ban overtime from Monday in action the union said would hit aviation supplies and deliveries to BP forecourts across Scotland and the north east of England.

MPs set to debate smoking plans
MPs will debate government plans to introduce a partial smoking ban in England and Wales, when the legislation returns to the House of Commons for its second reading today. The Health Bill includes proposals to introduce a smoking ban in public places, but with exemptions for pubs and bars, which do not serve food and private members’ clubs.

Scottish executive backs smoking ban
The Scottish executive has today confirmed that it will seek a total ban on smoking in enclosed public places. In order to enforce the ban, pubs and restaurants that fail to enforce the law will face fines up to a maximum of £2,500.
