30 Arrests Made In First 10 Days Of Summer Drink Drive Campaign
North Yorkshire Police have made 30 arrests in the first ten days of its summer drink and drug driving campaign.
Of the 30 arrests made: 12 were in York, 5 in Harrogate, 3 in Craven, 4 in Scarborough, 1 in Selby, 3 in Ryedale and 2 in Richmond. And nineteen people have been charged and appeared in court.
Over 250 breath tests have taken place, with one resulting in a 58-year-old man being found to be just under four times over the legal limit. He is now due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court next week. Another eight people provided samples over three times over the legal limit.
Traffic Sergeant Andy Morton of the Force's Roads Policing Group said: "Anyone who is considering driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs should know that we will be out and about waiting. If you are convicted, be aware that you face disqualification from driving a hefty fine and the possibility of a prison sentence.
"Every year we try and educate people about the devastation and heartbreak that drink and drug driving can cause. We appeal to members of the public that if they have information about anyone who is driving under the influence of drink or drugs, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the details to the Force Control Room.
"For those who would prefer to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. You could save someone's life."

10-year-old British child killed in Crete
A 10-year-old British boy has died and three other children and an adult have been injured in a coach crash on the Mediterranean island of Crete this morning. Call for drink drive limit to be lowered in Scotland
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland are calling for the Scottish Executive to consider lowering the current drink drive limit in a bid to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on Scotland's roads. The ACPOS is expected to present a paper to First Minister Alex Salmond within the next few weeks.

Calls To Lower Drink-Drive Limit In England
The Police Federation has said the drink-drive limit in England and Wales should be lowered. The organisation, which represents rank and file officers in England and Wales, wants the limit cut from 80 to 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

The government has launched this year’s Christmas drink drive campaign. This year’s advertising will focus on the fact that motorists cannot calculate their own drink drive limits and, therefore, should avoid alcohol altogether.
