Investigation Launched Into Honesty Box Shop Theft
An investigation has been launched into the theft of a number of items from a volunteer-run community shop on the island of Canna.
The shop is left open allowing visitors to the island to replenish supplies and use its wi-fi, operating an honesty box for people to leave money.
Volunteers checked the shop following the weekend to find that toiletries, batteries, sweets and six hand-knitted hats had been taken.
Police Scotland want to speak to anyone who docked at the pier over the weekend.
Businesses Evacuated Following Acid Spill
A number of businesses have been evacuated in Dundee following a hydrochloric acid spill.
It is understood that firefighters responded to calls of a "strong smell" at fabrics business, Halley Stevensons, on Annfield Road.
Three people were given precautionary checks, but there were no reports of injuries.
Sir John Hurt Diagnosed With Cancer
Sir John Hurt has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, according to a report by the BBC.
The 75-year-old veteran actor is understood to have said he would undergo treatment and would continue to work.

High Street Shop Closures Slow Slightly
The rate of high street shop closures has slowed slighted, according to a study. In the first half of the year, some 18 shops closed each day in town centres, down from 20 per day for the same period last year. Overall, 209 shops closed in the first half of the year, compared with 953 for the same period last year.

NHS recruitment drive to focus on over 50s
A new nationwide drive to recruit NHS staff, which will focus for the first time on the over 50s, has been was launched today. NHS Job Shop Day comprises of 220 events taking place around the country on or around 23 September. Around 150 Jobcentres across England will also be holding special NHS events on 23 September as part of NHS Job Shop Day.

Women Diagnosed With Cancer Following Recall Of Patients
Six out of 30 women recalled following concerns about breast cancer screenings have been diagnosed with the disease. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust recalled the women after a review of 626 cases between 2011 and 2014. It is understood that all the women were screened by the same radiologist.

The revenue and customs service has issued the UK's employers with a warning after nearly 600 PAYE submissions listed employees as Mr X. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) said it was urging employers to get their PAYE paperwork in order, noting it had also received more than 500 returns from businesses incorrectly claiming to employ “A N Other” in 2010.
