Victims Mother Appeals For Hit-And-Run Driver To Come Forward
The mother of a 15-year-old boy left seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Wolverhampton, has made an appeal for the driver to come forward.
Mackie Miller was walking home from school on 29 April along Bushbury Road, when he was hit by a lorry travelling from Fallings Park.
The driver carried on without stopping, leaving the 15-year-old with leg and arm and severe stomach injuries.
Louise Hazel, the teenagers mother, said: "As a parent, getting a call telling you your son has been knocked down is horrendous, you’re instantly thrown into a real life nightmare. I got a call from his friend telling me he had been knocked down – at this point I didn’t know the full extent of what had happened to him but when I was told he had been airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital I knew it wasn’t good, considering that New Cross Hospital was just around the corner. He had been on the pavement, just by the side of the crossing when a truck came past and knocked him down.
"He was operated on for a fractured pelvis, large stomach laceration, a smashed left hand and shoulder fracture - Mackie is a really sporty lad and plays football in both the Saturday Junior Premier League and also the local Sunday league so this has left him completely devastated that he can’t do any sports at all and at this point we don’t know for how long."
Officers investigating the collision are now appealing to the lorry driver or anyone who has any information to come forward.
PC Andy Clarke, from Force Traffic, said: "We have appealed for the driver of the truck to come forward and as yet, he has not made contact with us.
"It is possible he is unaware he was even involved in a collision, but we urgently need to speak to him to establish what happened.
"Our inquiries into the collision continue and we are urging the driver to do the right thing and to come forward. We also want to jog people’s memories of that day, if you were a witness and haven’t already come forward or if you can help identify the driver of the lorry - described as a rigid lorry with a distinctive Hiab crane behind the cab - then please make contact with me or one of the team."
Anyone with any information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101. Alternatively people can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Matab Uddin, 59, of Blackshots Lane, Essex was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and fraud. The court heard how police were called on Sunday, 17 November 2013 at about 1:45am to reports of a man injured on Essex Road.
