Investigation Underway After Hay Bales Destroyed By Fire

Approximately 100 bales of hay have been destroyed by a fire which firefighters suspect may have been started deliberately.

The blaze was reported to fire crews at 7:30pm at Contullich Farm, Alness on 21 July.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent two appliances from Invergordon to tackle the fire.

The last of the fire crews left the scene at 10:43pm.

SFRS said no one was injured and no damage was caused to buildings.

Phil Green, of the fire service, said: "Although this incident is still under investigation there is a possibility that this fire was deliberately set.

"We would like to remind everyone about the dangers involved in deliberate fire setting. These fires can threaten properties and consequently people’s safety. There is also a risk to animals, birds and the environment."

Police are appealing for witnesses.
