38 Charged In 'Cash For Crash' Fraud

Thirty-eight people have been charged in connection with a 'cash for crash' insurance fraud scheme in Cumbria.

The charges came following an investigation by Cumbria Police and consultation with the CPS.

Police said that the offences took place between 2010 and 2014.

The investigation has been a joint-up operation between Cumbria Constabulary, the Insurance Fraud Bureau and the Crown Prosecution Service.

All 38 people are expected to appear before North Cumbria Magistrates Court on 28 July 2015 in connection with these offences.

Increase In Knife Robberies, Statistics Show
The number of robberies involving knives rose by 18% between July and September last year, according to new figures released today. The Home Office statistics also showed that domestic burglaries rose by 4% during the same period, while fraud and forgery was up by 16%. Drug offences have also risen by 9%.

Canoe Death Fake Arrested Over Breach Of Licence
A man jailed for faking his own death in an insurance fraud scheme has been arrested for breaching the terms of his releases. 63-year-old John Darwin was jailed for six years in 2008 after he was convicted of faking his own death in a canoe accident. In 2011, after serving half of his sentence, Darwin was released on licence.
