Parking Fines To Be Refunded Over Sign Height

More than 300 parking fines are to be refunded after it was found that a warning sign was mounted three inches below the legal height.

According to reports 320 tickets have been issued since September to drivers who parked at a loading bay in Burrows Place, near Swansea museum.

Swansea councillor Sybil Crouch challenged the legality of the sign after receiving a £70 fine.

The council apologised and said all penalty notices would be paid back.

Mother Who Claimed Assault While Breastfeeding Charged

A 28-year-old mother who accused a security guard of assaulting her while she was breastfeeding, has been charged with intent to pervert the course of justice.

Caroline Starmer, of Leicester, published a post on a breastfeeding website, claiming that a Primark security guard had physically taken her baby from her to force her to leave the store.

She is now due to appear before Leicester Magistrates' Court on 24 August.

Police Hunt Man Over Longbow Attack On Ducks

Police are hunting for a man believed to have shot two ducks with a longbow in Devon.

It is understood that witnesses reported seeing a man leaving the scene by the River Dart, carrying a mallard duck.

The suspect is described as white, in his early 20s, and slim with collar-length light brown hair, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Teen drinkers and vandals face on-the-spot fines
Underage drinkers, vandals, litter louts and petty thieves could all face on-the-spot fines when caught by police, under new laws coming into force today. Under the new powers, police can issue £80 fixed penalty notices to anyone caught drinking underage, buying alcohol for a minor, shoplifting for the first time or causing minor criminal damage.

Fines for rail fare dodgers could double: proposals
The government is proposing to double the rail penalty fare from £10 to £20 to deter persistent fare dodgers. The increase could come into force around the turn of the year, if agreed. Britain's rail industry loses an estimated £210 million a year from fare evasion.
