Ban For Mother Caught Drunk Driving With Her Children

A 32-year-old woman has been banned from driving for two years after she was caught more than three times the legal limit with her two young children in the car.

Sarah Pickering, of Redfearn Mews, Harrogate was stopped on Leadhall Lane in Harrogate on 03 July. She then provided a sample of 109mg per 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit.

Pleading guilty at Harrogate Magistrates' Court, in addition to the ban, she received a £150 fine and was ordered to pay £85 court costs and £60 victims surcharge.

Traffic Constable David Minto of the Roads Policing Team said: "Drink driving in itself is a dangerous and potentially lethal thing to do, but to do so with two young children in the car is utterly irresponsible - the consequences could have been catastrophic. Luckily officers were there in time to arrest her and prevent anything dreadful from happening to the children or to other road users."
