Over 500 Pupils Evacuated In School Fire

More than 500 pupils were evacuated from a school in north west London when a fire broke out in the roof the building.

65 staff and 540 pupils evacuated the school on Goodson Road in Willesden when the fire alarm sounded on Tuesday afternoon.

There were no reports of any injuries.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) Station Manager Sean Madeley who was at the scene, said: "540 pupils and 65 staff were safely evacuated from the school as soon as the fire alarm sounded and there were no injuries.

"Quick thinking firefighters laid down plastic sheeting in the lower floors to minimise water damage. Crews used aerial appliances to tackle the fire from above but this is likely to be a protected incident."

It is understood the roof of the school has been completely destroyed alongside widespread damage to the second floor.

Fire crews were called at 15:04 and report bringing the fire under control shortly after 21:00.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
