Last British Resident Released From Guantanamo Bay

The last British resident held in a military prison at Guantanamo Bay has been released, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond confirmed.

Shaker Aamer is due to arrive back in Britain later today, 30 October.

The Saudi national, 48, has been in the prison in Cuba since 2002 and he has never been charged.

The father of four has permission to live indefinitely in the UK as his wife is British.

Mr Aamer was detained in Afghanistan in 2001 and accused of having links with al Queda.

However, he maintains he was there with his family doing charity work.
