Cancer Research launches 'Stride for Life' campaign

In preparation for the return of winter and the clocks going forward, Cancer Research UK has urged Britons to spend the extra hour they have by taking part in their series of 10km charity walks.

To highlight the upcoming 'Stride for Life' event, the organisation commissioned an NOP survey to find out what the population would do if it had an extra hour a day. The survey revealed that Britain is a nation of socialites and romantics, with 60% of people choosing to spend an extra hour in their day with either family (30%), friends (15%) or "romancing with their partner" (15%).

Donations raised for 'Stride for Life' will go towards the treatment, cure and prevention of breast cancer. Many of the 'Stride for Life' events are taking place on 26 October when British summer time ends and the nation benefits from a 25-hour day.

Frances Milner, Head of Community Fundraising (Southern Region) at Cancer Research UK, said: "This survey shows that it is very important to most people that they spend any extra free time they get, with family, friends and partners.

"Stride for Life really is the perfect way to make the most of your extra hour on 26 October. Spending an hour or so walking through beautiful countryside with your friends and family whilst raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK's breast cancer research is a perfect way to spend an extra long Sunday."

Stride for Life, which takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is open to anyone capable of walking the required 10kms and entry forms/sponsorship packs are available by contacting 08701 602040.
