Hewitt pledges support for aerospace industry
A new plan for delivering future success in the UK aerospace industry has been launched today.
At a conference to launch the DTI Aerospace Innovation and Growth team's (AeIGT) implementation plan, Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt pledged that DTI would help deliver additional support to meet the industry's future needs.
The Minister said it would mean "exploring all the possible funding sources", including Regional Development Agencies, other government departments, and the Research Councils, as well as DTI, to find the support needed. She stressed it would leverage matching investment from the industry and would need their full co-operation to achieve.
"The aerospace industry has traditionally enjoyed strong government support," Ms Hewitt said.
"We have always worked closely together, and the industry is fully entitled to expect that to continue in future."
Backing this support, she announced £234,000 of DTI funding to boost skills in the sector. The funding will back a year-long project and will be matched by the partners to a total of £597,800.

Cash injection into aerospace research announced
A new boost for research in the aerospace industry has been announced today by Industry Minister Alan Johnson. Almost £1.5 million will help develop new technologies and processes to reduce waste during the manufacture of aerospace components. The project will be run by Finite Element Analysis in conjunction with other supply chain companies.
