George Best charged with drink driving

Football legend George Best has been charged with drink driving after being stopped by police in London this morning.

The former Manchester United player was arrested in Merton, south west London, shortly after midnight and taken to Wimbledon police station.

Mr Best, 57, is expected to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' court on Monday.

The ex-Northern Ireland international, from West Ewell, Surrey, is estranged from this wife Alex who is currently appearing on ITV1's 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!'.

Following years of alcoholism, Mr Best received a life-saving liver transplant in 2002.

Hairspray Scoops Four Olivier Awards
West End musical 'Hairspray' has won four awards at this year's Laurence Olivier Awards. The stage musical was named best new musical, while newcomer Leanne Jones won the award for best actress in a musical for her role as Tracy Turnblad.

Mirren leads the winners at the Golden Globes
Dame Helen Mirren won two awards at the Golden Globe on a night where British talent triumphed. Dame Helen collected the award for Best Actress in a TV movie or mini-series for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth I' as well as Best Actress in a drama for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' drama 'The Queen'.

Cold shoulder for ‘Cold Mountain’ in Oscar nominations
One of the front-runners in this year’s Academy Award race has been dramatically snubbed in the nominations list. ‘Cold Mountain’, the lavish American Civil War epic, directed by Anthony Minghella, only picked up two major nominations – ‘Best Actor’ for Jude Law and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination for Renee Zellweger.

Arrests Follow Edmonton Murder
Police investigating the murder of 15-year old Negus McLean in Edmonton have today made a further two arrests. A 14-year old boy, and a 16-year old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Police were called at 7.25pm on Sunday 10 April to reports of a stabbing in Westminster Road, north London.

East London Murder Appeal
Detectives have appealed for information about the murder of a woman in Manor Park. Aliza Ahmed Mirza, 18, a student from Ilford, died on Saturday 3 April. Police had been called to reports of a collapsed female. It is believed she was stabbed while in the Forest View Road area. Miss Mirza was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead.
