West Brom striker denies road death charge

West Bromwich Albion footballer Lee Hughes pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Coventry Crown Court today.

Mr Hughes, a 27-year-old striker for the First Division team, was charged following a fatal collision in Meridien, West Midlands, on November 23 2003.

Fifty-six-year-old Douglas Graham, from Eastern Green in Coventry, died after the Renault Megane car he was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a silver Mercedes coupe in the early hours of the morning.

The court was adjourned while a court date is fixed. Mr Hughes was remanded on conditional bail.

West Bromwich Albion striker Lee Hughes has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving at Coventry Crown Court today. Hughes was found guilty of causing the death of Douglas Graham, a 56-year-old father of four in Meriden, West Midlands, on November 23 last year.
