Fallujah killers will be caught, authorities pledge
The killers of the four US contractors, whose charred bodies were dismembered by a crowd in Fallujah, will be caught and brought to justice, the Coalition Provisional Authority has said.
The four men were killed yesterday morning after their vehicle was ambushed in Fallujah – a town to the west of Baghdad which has been a hotbed of disaffection since the end of hostilities last May.
They came under attack from small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades and died in the vehicle. A crowd later gathered and dragged the burnt corpses from the wrecked car and dragged them around the town. Graphic scenes of the atrocity were captured by camera crews, and were later run by US news stations in censored broadcasts.
It is not yet known if the bodies have been recovered for burial.
The men had been working for a US-based private security firm which employs former special forces soldiers for lucrative security contracts in conflict zones.
Fallujah is reported to be quiet today but that will change when the US and Iraqi authorities carry out their pledge to hunt down the killers.
