Ex-Beatle McCartney toppled from music millions top spot

Sir Paul McCartney is no longer Britain's wealthiest music maestro – with a mere £760 million, he has been trumped by an executive who sold his record company for £1.2 billion, according to this year's Sunday Times rich list.

Clive Calder, formerly of Zomba Records, which handled Britney Spears and 'N Sync, received the billion-pound kiss off from BMG in 2002 – and so became Britain's 23rd richest person, according to the list which is published this Sunday.

Simon Cowell, the censorious judge from Pop Idol, has seen his personal wealth increase to around £45 million after the show topped ratings on both sides of the Atlantic. The Spice Girls' former manager Simon Fuller has also benefited from his links to the globally syndicated show, and is said to be Britain's fifth wealthiest music millionaire with £220 million.

The Beckhams also saw their collective fortunes rise by around £15 million to £65 million, and their rich list rating soar by 68 places to 621st. David is said to be worth £55 million following his lucrative move from Manchester United to Real Madrid last summer, and former Spice Girl Victoria is worth around £10 million.

Britain's richest person is the Duke of Westminster, whose combined wealth is thought to be around £4,900 million.
