Union to lobby Parliament over BBC independence
Keeping the BBC free from commercial and political interference the NUJ’s top priority for the next two years, says the union’s new President, Jim Corrigall.
Accordingly, the union is organising a lobby of Parliament on Wednesday May 19.
Mr Corrigall, who works for the BBC World Service, said: “The future of public service broadcasting is being decided right now in reviews by the government and by the new super-regulator, Ofcom, and we must intervene vigorously in this debate - in defence of high-quality news, current affairs, documentaries, drama and entertainment.
“All members are asked to join this lobby, to bring along supporters - and make MPs listen.”
The lobby will take place at 12 noon on May 19 at St Stephen Entrance to Parliament, London SW1.
