Detectives consider revenge motive in double murder: reports

A couple who were found dead in their Lincolnshire bungalow on Sunday may have been murdered in a revenge hit, the BBC has reported today.

According to the BBC, detectives are investigating the possibility that the couple – whose identities have yet to be revealed by police – may have been killed in revenge for a murder carried out by their son.

However, police said that they were as yet not aware of the victims being involved a witness protection scheme, and were still keeping an open mind as to the motive behind the murders.

The bodies were discovered on Sunday evening when police, who were acting on a tip off, entered the house on Sutton Road, Trusthorpe. Lincolnshire police have confirmed that both died from gunshot wounds, however, they would not say whether a weapon had been recovered from the property.

Post mortems were held yesterday evening at Boston Pilgrim Hospital, and detectives are awaiting the results of forensics and ballistics testing.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that the bodies had been identified but would not be making any details public until later today. The couple had only moved into the area from Nottinghamshire six months ago.

At a press conference yesterday, Detective Superintendent Graham White reassured the local community that the police were "doing everything they could" and upwards of 50 officers are now involved in the inquiry.

Anyone with information should contact police, in strict confidence, on 01522 532222 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
