Sun and Times owners to move to new north London base
News Corporation, the company which owns the Sun and The Times newspapers, has today announced that it is to move away from its Wapping headquarters to a new production plant in Enfield, north of London.
The £600 million investment plan over four to five years will see the company also acquire new facilities in Glasgow and Liverpool, and 22 state-of-the-art full-colour printing presses.
Les Hinton, executive chairman of News International, said the move would bring advantages to both advertisers and editorial, but warned that the move would affect headcount.
“This is a long-range project taking more than four years to complete. Over this period inevitably there will be job changes and losses as the new automated technology comes on line. There will be no impact on jobs for at least two years and, wherever possible, reductions will be achieved through voluntary redundancy,” he said.
“When this project is complete our newspapers will be unsurpassed in the quality of their printing and the speed and efficiency with which we produce them.”
Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corporation, which publishes The Sun, the News of the World, The Times, The Sunday Times and the TSL Education supplements, said the move "demonstrates again our absolute commitment to the future of print”.

Music Copyright Extended
A new EU ruling has extended copyright on sound recordings from 50 to 70 years. This means recordings such as Cliff Richard's Move It, Connie Francis's Who's Sorry Now and Andy William's Are You Sincere, which fell out of copyright in 2009, will now continue to earn money for the musicians involved.

BBC Denies £150k Thailand Party Claims
The BBC has denied claims made in the Sun newspaper that it blew £150,000 on a show in Thailand after an episode was scrapped. The newspaper said the crew working on the BBC Three show 'Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents' spent 10 days partying in Phuket at the expense of licence fees. The BBC said there was "no truth" to the claims.

S4C To Move Its Headquarters
S4C has confirmed it is to move its headquarters from Cardiff to Carmarthen. The broadcaster signed a deal with the University of Wales to see its relocation. The move will bring together a range of expertise to provide training and other job opportunities, it has been reported. S4C first announced its intention to move in March this year.

Study claims dyslexia slows drivers' reactions
Dyslexia could affect a driver's reaction as much as a moderate drinking session, a Norwegian scientist has claimed. Hermundur Sigmundsson, from the University of Science and Technology in Norway, conducted a study comparing how quickly dyslexic and non-dyslexic drivers reacted to traffic signs.
