UK's Camp Dogwood garrison hit by missile barrage

British troops stationed in Camp Dogwood have been subjected to an intense missile barrage today.

Earlier this afternoon, five missiles were fired into Camp Dogwood; one failed to detonate and was later destroyed in a controlled explosion. The British garrison suffered no casualties and little damage was caused during the attack.

Earlier this week, a British soldier was wounded near the camp – which lies 25 miles south of Baghdad – following a roadside bomb attack on a patrol.

The soldier was injured on Wednesday when a Warrior armoured personnel carrier belonging to the Black Watch was damaged in a roadside bomb attack whilst on patrol east of the Euphrates. The wounded soldier was evacuated to a US military hospital in Baghdad. The soldier's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

In a second incident on Wednesday, British troops escaped injury after their patrol was targeted by a suicide car bomber.

The battlegroup is expected to return back to British-controlled southern Iraq on December 3.
