Carr granted indefinite anonymity

The High Court has granted Soham murderer Ian Huntley's former girlfriend Maxine Carr an indefinite order to protect her new identity.

The 27-year-old was convicted of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. She had provided a false alibi for Huntley for the weekend that schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman disappeared in August 2002.

Huntley was later charged with the murder of the two ten-year-olds and is currently serving a life sentence. Ms Carr served 21 months and was released last May.

She was given a new identity and the High Court granted a temporary order, stating that her identity needed to be kept secret for her own safety.

At London High Court, Judge Eady extended the order indefinitely. He said that this was necessary to protect "life and limb" as well as Ms Carr's psychological well-being.

The media did not contest the order to protect Ms Carr's identity.
