Prisoner on the run following taxi escape

Police are searching for a convicted robber who escaped from a taxi in which he was being transported to hospital.

Neil Brennan, 21, had been in the taxi with two prison guards, who were accompanying him to Hope Hospital in Salford, Greater Manchester to receive treatment for a hand injury yesterday. The taxi was stopped by two men, who threatened the guards at gunpoint and ordered them to remove Brennan's handcuffs. Brennan then escaped with the two men. The two guards were not injured but were reported to have been left "shocked" by the incident.

Brennan had been serving a six-year sentence for robbery at the privately run HMP Forest Bank Prison in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police have said that the escape was well planned. They have also warned that Brennan may be dangerous and have warned the public not to approach him if they see him and to contact the police instead.
