Blair and Brown unite for Labour’s first election broadcast
Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chancellor Gordon Brown are to jointly feature in the Labour Party's first election broadcast.
The broadcast is based in part on a series of filmed conversations between them about their shared efforts to modernise Labour and Britain. They speak frankly about the challenges they have faced together, the way they work together, and the battleground for the election.
The broadcast is billed as part of Labour's "determination to ensure the economy is always centre-stage in the election".
The election broadcast airs on the evening of Monday April 11.

Broadcasters To Televise General Election Debates
The four broadcasters behind plans for televised General Election debates have published new proposals to expand the debates. The initiative follows talks with the Conservatives, Labour, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP. The debates would take place during the General Election campaign, with proposed dates of 2,16 and 30 April.

Labour Councillor Suspended Over Auschwitz Tweet
A Labour councillor has been suspended from the party after she retweeted a conservative election poster containing a picture of Auschwitz. Nottingham councillor Rosemary Healy insisted she did not see what the picture was of and issued "profound apologies". The poster reads: "Let's stay on the road to a stronger economy.

Veteran labour MP defects to Lib Dems
Veteran Labour MP Brian Sedgemore has announced his defection to the Liberal Democrats. Mr Sedgemore, who was Labour’s MP for Luton West from 1974 – 1979 and for Hackney South & Shoreditch from 1983, described New Labour as “dead” and urged voters to give Prime Minister Tony Blair “a bloody nose” at the election by voting for the Liberal Democrats.

Amendment Banning Smoking In Cars With Children Before Lords
The House of Lords is to vote later today on an amendment to the Children and Families Bill, seeking a ban on smoking in cars carrying children. The amendment has been put forward by Labour, who have said that if it is not passed by the Lords today, they will include it in its next election manifesto.
