Baby girl found ‘safe and well’

A baby girl who was believed to be in a car, which was reported as stolen, has been found safe and well at her home address.

Police received a report from a man saying that his red Ford Ranger 4x4 had been stolen from outside a butcher’s shop in Bristol around 9:20am on Tuesday morning. The man also told police that his ten-month-old daughter, was still inside the vehicle, strapped into the back seat.

A major search was launched following the report, involving scores of officers and specialist units, including the Air Support unit.

However, police confirmed that the child had been found at home with her mother, after police went to the man’s address around 11:00 am.

The missing vehicle has also been found, parked in a street in south Bristol. Police said the car was found after a member of the public reported spotting the vehicle.

A police spokesperson said that they were “delighted” that the baby girl had been found.

Following “extensive enquiries” to establish the circumstances around the initial request for police help, the baby girl's 41-year-old father was charged by police with creating a public nusiance.
