Man has convictions quashed in Welsh family murder
A man who was jailed for life for the murder of four members of a Welsh family has had his convictions quashed.
David Morris, 42, was jailed for life in June 2002 for the murders of his former lover Mandy Power, 34, her two daughters, Katy, 10, and Emily, 8, and the girls’ grandmother Doris Dawson, 80, at their home in Clydach, near Swansea in June 1999. All four victims had been bludgeoned to death and the house had been set on fire, in what appeared to be an attempt by the killer to cover up the crime.
Mr Morris had always maintained his innocence.
At the appeal court in Cardiff, Lord Justice Pill read out the ruling, which stated that Mr Morris had not received a fair trial because of a conflict of interest during the original trial.
Mr Morris’ solicitor had represented Stephen Lewis, a police officer who had originally been suspected of committing the murders, along with his wife Angela Lewis.
Mrs Lewis, a former police policewoman had been Ms Power's lesbian lover. No charges were ever brought against the couple.
Mr Morris will now face a retrial. Lord Justice Pill directed that a fresh indictment be drawn up and Mr Morris rearraigned within two months.
Mr Morris was remanded in custody following the hearing. No application for bail was made.

A £100,000 reward is being offered by detectives hunting the killer of Doreen Morris, who was murdered at her home in Holyhead in 1994. Last Thursday marked the sixteenth anniversary of the death of the 64-year-old woman, whose badly burnt remains were discovered at her home Penrhyn Uchaf on Mill Lane.

Visits to UK museums rise by 11m from 2001
More people are taking advantage of free admission to museums and galleries in England, according to new figures out today. Visits have risen by nearly 11 million since the introduction of the free admissions policy in December 2001. There were 5.3 million extra visitors in the first year, and an extra 5.6 million last year.

Man Charged After Solicitor Shot In Head
A man has been charged with attempted murder after a solicitor was shot in the head at his office in Wiltshire. 62-year-old Michael Chudley has been charged with the attempted murder of James Ward, 58, who was shot and seriously injured at Morris, Goddard & Ward Solicitors in St John's Street, Devizes, on Monday.

Woman found guilty over mincer murder
A woman has been found guilty of the murder of a man, whose body was fed through a domestic mincer. Twenty-three-year-old Karen Morris, from Selly Park in Birmingham, was convicted of the murder of Nelvaughn Brade after her plea of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility was rejected.

Action group, Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston (Conch), has appealed for a judicial review of the plans for the coal-fired power station at Hunterston.
