Senior Al Qaeda suspect caught
A suspected high-ranking member of Al Qaeda has been arrested in Pakistan.
Abu Faraj al-Libbi, a Libyan national, was captured earlier this week, according to reports.
Mr Libbi is allegedly ranked as third in command of Al Qaeda, after Osama Bin Laden and Egyptian-born Ayman al-Zamahri. He is believed to have risen to that position following the arrest in 2003 of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the man who claimed to have organised the September 11 terror attacks.
Libbi had been wanted in connection with two assassination attempts on Pakistan’s President, Pervez Musharraf. The President was the target of two bombs attacks in December 2003. Mr Musharraf managed to escape injury, but 17 people died in the attacks.
Mr Libbi is one of several hundred Al Qaeda suspects to be arrested in Pakistan.
The country, which has been a key ally to the US in its war on terrorism, has arrested around 700 Al Qaeda suspects and handed them over to US authorities.
