Schoolgirl killed in minibus crash

A 12-year-old girl has died and eleven other people, including nine children, have been injured, following a collision between a minibus and a car in South Wales.

The minibus driver has been arrested, police have confirmed.

The accident happened around 08:30am in Crumlin, South Wales. The minibus, which was taking children to Newbridge Comprehensive School, was overturned in the accident, a fire service spokesperson said.

The 12-year-old was taken to the Royal Gwent hospital, where she later died. Nine other children along with the minibus driver and another adult were injured in the crash and were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The main route between Hafodyrnys and Pontypool has been closed as a result of the accident.

Caerphilly county borough council issued a statement saying they were “deeply shocked and saddened” by the news of the accident. The statement also said that support was being provided for the children at Newbridge Comprehensive.

Minibus Overturns In Wales
A minibus has crashed and overturned near Abergavenny in Wales this morning, Friday. Eight people were in the minibus when the collision occurred on the Old Hereford Road at around 8am. No other vehicles were involved and no-one was seriously injured, Gwent Police confirmed.
