Police arrest 21 in gun crime clampdown
West Midlands Police have arrested 21 people in connection with firearms offences, as part of an operation to tackle gun crime.
Fifteen men and six women, aged between 13 and 35 were arrested during yesterday’s raids in Rowley Regis.
Police said that a firearm and an item “with characteristics of a suspect device” had been found during routine searches at an address in Farm Road.
The bomb disposal squad was called and the road and surrounding area were evacuated.
Police said that no one had been arrested under the terrorism act and stressed that the arrests were part of a long-standing operation, aimed at tackling gun crime.
It is likely that the investigation would continue for some time, police said.
Fifteen of those arrested have been released on bail. Six people remain in custody.

Domenico Rancadore is described by Italian police as the head of a crime family involved in extortion, racketeering and drug trafficking. The overall crime rate in England and Wales is continuing to fall, according to the results of the British Crime Survey (BCS). The survey showed that the overall crime rate fell by 11%, in the year ending September 2004.
